5 former Bru Refugees detained with ganja

Kanchanpur Sept 29: Acting on a tip-off police personnel of Kanchanpur police station led by OC Udayan Debbarma detained five Bru Refugees hailing from Mizoram who have been recognized as Tripura residents at present.
According to the details, a police team detained an autorickshaw at Kanchanpur Naka Point and searching the vehicle 5 packets of ganja that has a market value of approximately Rs 5 lakh has been seized.
Police also arrested 5 persons in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as Bajuvan Reang, Milanjoy Reang, Dispit Malsai, Sarat Reang and Pawan Reang, all members of Bru Refugee Camp from Mizoram who have been acknowledged as Tripura residents by the state government in recent days and are living in areas like Hadhkalo Para, Khasnam Para, Khamtai Para areas.
The accused youths were produced before the court on Friday when the court rejected the plea for bail.
Meanwhile, it could be known that the Kanchanpur police station is reeling with shortage of staff.
Including the OC, there are only 5 officers, 20 women constables among which 11 of them are on leave.
The police personnels said that they are not able to work efficiently because of shortage of staff.
