ABVP leader accused of threatening Govt employee of dire consequences

Kailasahar, Nov 29: An influential leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) identified as Sofat Ali was accused of threatening a government employee of dire consequences.
The incident took place on Tuesday noon at Unakoti District Sports Office, after the ABVP leader Sofat Ali allegedly entered into the office and threatened the government employee – Gopal Chowdhury. He was also accused of vandalising the office reportedly over the issue of recruitment of sports instructors.
According to the employee Gopal Chowdhury, who is also working as a joint secretary in the Unakoti District Sports Office, the ABVP leader Sofat Ali had threatened him of dire consequences over telephonic conversation on Monday night after he was rejected from the recruitment list.
As per the government notification over the recruitment, a total of 182 candidates applied for the posts from Unakoti district and accordingly the lists of the applied candidates were sent to the Agartala Sports Office, he said, adding that after proper examination of the total 182 applications, 62 candidates were rejected due to improper applications.
Chowdhury further added that the ABVP leader Sofat Ali also applied for the posts and later his application was rejected, following which Ali on Monday night called the government employee over telephone and asked about the reason of the rejection of his name from the applications. He also allegedly threatened Chowdhury of dire consequences over telephone and later on Tuesday noon he rushed to the Unakoti District Sports Office and allegedly vandalised the office to scare Chowdhury.
The incident triggered resentment among the employees of the sports office and reportedly asked the employee Gopal Chowdhury to lodge FIT against the ABVP leader Sofat Ali. Although no FIR was lodged till Tuesday evening.
