Admin conducts sudden raid; seizes domestic gas cylinders from restaurants, expired food items from shops

Sonamura, Oct 21: In a joint raid conducted by the administrative officials of the Sonamura subdivision and concerned food department at Sonapur market and other multiple areas in the subdivision, at least 5 domestic cooking gas cylinders were seized from restaurants and also several expired packaged food items were seized from different grocery shops on Monday.
A few temporary shops running business by encroaching the government land and roads near the sluice gate area of Sonamura subdivision, were evicted during the riad. Additional SDM Rupan Das, who led the raid on Monday informed that the raid was conducted based on some specific information regarding stock of expired packaged food items in some grocery shops. He said that an adequate amount of expired food items were seized during the raid and legal action will be taken against the shopkeepers accordingly.
On their way back from the raid, the administration officials noticed some temporary shops, which were reportedly running business by encroaching roads, resulting in disrupting traffic movement. The officials said that those business establishments will also be evicted.
Deputy Magistrate and Collector and Executive Officer of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat Prabir Saha, Food Department Inspector Sunanda Chowdhury, Food Safety Officer Rahul Saha, Legal Metrology Officer Bikash Debbarma and other officials jointly with the police officers of Sonamura Police Station conducted the raid on Monday.
