Agartala March 29: The city's ponds, long neglected and abandoned, will now get a fresh lease on life, and for that the municipal corporation has taken up necessary steps, said AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder.
Undertaking a city-wide initiative, the corporation has begun the process of systematically renovating each pond to restore their ecological and social value. This plan has already seen significant progress, with several ponds successfully rejuvenated.
On Wednesday, Mayor Dipak Majumdar personally inspected the renovation work at two key locations: the pond adjacent to Abhoynagar Market and the one near the Animal Husbandry Department. Accompanying him were Municipal Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Corporator Hiralal Debnath, and other officials, reflecting the administration's commitment to this cause.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor revealed that a substantial budget of approximately Rs 4 crore 75 lakh has been allocated for the renovation of these two ponds.
“This financial investment underscores the priority placed on bringing these water bodies back to their full potential, contributing to the city's environment and aesthetics”, he said.
The mayor further added that this revitalisation effort not only aims to restore the ponds to their former glory but also highlights the city's dedication to sustainable urban development, ensuring that these natural resources are preserved for future generations.
