Kumarghat Jan 27: Conveying a strong message of ‘overthrowing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power’, Tripura Pradesh Congress held a state-level convention with the workers of Scheduled Castes in Kumarghat.
The event saw the presence of senior party leaders including TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha.
With the assembly elections in Tripura scheduled for 2028, the Congress party, which had once become dormant, has started to reawaken in the region. The opposition camp has begun organizing itself well in advance of the elections. The Pradesh Congress took to the field to strengthen the party and its organization in front of the Scheduled Castes workers in Tripura.
On Sunday, the Pradesh Congress held a state-based convention of the Scheduled Castes division in Ratiyabari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district, based on nine-point demands.
Apart from State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, State Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha, Pradesh Mahila Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, District Congress president Md. Badruzzaman, and other state and district-level leaders took part.
Addressing the meeting, Ashish Kumar Saha sharply criticized the BJP government at both the centre and state levels, using strong language on various issues.
He accused the BJP of using the administration to block the opposition's programs and claimed that the people of the state are living in fear under their rule.
Saha alleged that the BJP has undermined the country's democracy by coming to power through the back door and creating ethnic differences for political gain, which the people of the state have never witnessed before.
Saha also accused the BJP of spreading drugs in the state despite their slogan of a drug-free Tripura. He claimed that the ruling party is destroying the youth by issuing licenses for liquor shops and creating a chaotic situation in the state.
The State Congress chief urged the workers to be ready to fight to free the state from this situation.
Ashish Saha also questioned the previous promises made by the BJP, alleging that the current BJP-led government has not fulfilled the promises made to the common people, including the Scheduled Caste community, before coming to power.
He accused the BJP of being immersed in the politics of division and took a jibe at the state Chief minister, calling him a "Jumla."
Meanwhile, 47 voters from eight families joined the Congress during the meeting. The new members were welcomed with the party flag by the Congress state leaders.
Workers and supporters from different parts of Tripura participated in the convention, with party leaders and activists strongly calling for the overthrow of the BJP in the coming days.
