Agartala, Mar 21: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Friday branded the budget estimates for the fiscal year 2025-26 as “directionless” and “anti-people”. He also said that he didn’t find the budget proposals “having any substance with”.
Reacting to the budget proposals, he said, “The budget proposals have nothing to offer to the people who are entangled in their day-to-day problems. The people from the downtrodden section of the society will get nothing from this budget. No efforts had been made to touch the lives of distressed people living in the villages and hills enduring everyday hardships. Rather, the government was careful in allocating funds for some schemes so that a particular section reaps rich dividends. For the last seven years, all budgets have been framed keeping that section’s interest in mind.”
Stating that the size of the budget looks impressive, the Leader of Opposition said, “The total outlay of funds stand at Rs 32,423.44 crore. In terms of size, the budget looks promising and the Finance Minister in his two hours long budget speech had carefully used some of the most melodious words to draw the attention. It must be one of the longest budget speeches of recent times. But to my personal opinion, the genuine concerns of the public remained unaddressed.”
He said that some of the thrust areas like employment generation, solving issues of day-to-day life failed to draw any attention of the ruling party. “For the last seven years, the state government failed to achieve anything significant in terms of asset creation through capital investment,” he alleged.
