Agartala, Nov 30: The political blame game began following a clash that left one CPM supporter dead and several others injured at Charilam on Wednesday.
While the CPM held Deputy Chief Minister, MLA of Charilam constituency, responsible for the incident, the Deputy Chief Minister in his reaction asked CPM to behave more responsibly.
“Any loss of life saddens us. The CPI (M) leadership must learn to behave more responsibly. One former Minister from their party has been trying for several weeks to create disturbance in my constituency by bringing in anti social elements from his neighbouring constituency to disturb the peace in Charilam,” Dev Varma commented in a social media post.
He also wrote that they (CPM) had brought anti-socials and miscreants from his constituency for deputation to the Charilam block and threw stones and bottles at BJP karyakartas who were standing in front of the local party office after party’s flags and festoons were damaged. Many of the BJP Karyakartas were injured.
“It has always been the strategy of CPI (M) to terrorise prior to elections. We condemn all violence of this sort and their effort to instigate violence. I appeal to all my karyakartas to maintain peace and harmony,” the Deputy Chief Minister reacted.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar and CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury visited the injured party workers in the hospital.
Speaking to the media, Sarkar alleged that a meeting in front of the Charilam party office was attacked and several party men were injured. In the incident, Sahid Mia died on the way to hospital. He strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the culprits involved in the attack.
Chowdhury said, such attacks and violent acts of BJP are reflection of the ruling party’s fear of defeat in the upcoming assembly elections.
He alleged that the Charilam area had witnessed a series of such attacks on the opposition parties. He also commented that Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma was the main culprit behind the incident.
The CPM state secretary also announced a state-wide protest programme demanding action against the attackers and restoration of rule of law.
Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury, who also met the injured BJP karyakartas at the GBP hospital, termed the fatal surprise attack as pre-planned by the CPI(M) miscreants.
“Terrorism and violence have no place in the holy land of Tripura. Opposition evil forces are creating such violence to tarnish the development and dignity of #Charilam as well as the entire state. The well-informed citizens of the state will give a befitting reply to this despicable conspiracy organized in the state to achieve political interests in an undemocratic manner,” he mentioned in a social media post.
