Agartala March 30: A state-based convention of CITU was held at Agartala Town Hall on Sunday to rally support for the countrywide general strike scheduled for May 20, initiated by 10 central trade unions, federations, and various organizations. The event saw the presence of CITU State president Manik Dey, General Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta, and other leaders.
Addressing the gathering, CITU State General Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta highlighted the challenges faced by workers under the current government, emphasizing the worsening conditions for daily wage earners and women workers.
He criticized the government's policies, claiming they have led to increased poverty and wealth concentration among a small elite. He also expressed concerns over the proposed Labour Code Act, which he argued would suppress workers' rights to organize and protest.
CITU State president Manik Dey echoed these sentiments, accusing the government of fostering division and neglecting the development of the working class.
Both leaders called for a united mass movement to challenge these policies and ensure the success of the May 20 strike.
The day’s convention witnessed significant participation from workers and supporters, reflecting growing discontent and solidarity.
