Agartala April 01: The bustling Chaitra Mela, a beloved tradition in the capital, has brought renewed excitement to small traders and shoppers alike.
Commencing on Tuesday in the Shakuntala Road area, the fair is being held in celebration of the 1st of Baishakh (Bengali New Year) and will continue until April 14. Traders have adorned their stalls with vibrant displays, offering a variety of goods to mark the occasion.
This year's fair has attracted vendors not just from across the state but also from distant regions like Uttar Pradesh. The diversity of stalls has added a unique charm to the event, making it a hub of cultural and commercial activity.
To facilitate buyers, the Agartala Corporation has allocated free spaces through a token system. However, reports have surfaced that some vendors have acquired stalls by paying money, with one trader disclosing that he purchased a shop for Rs 10,000. He optimistically stated that if the weather remains favourable, the fair holds significant potential for profitable business.
The Chaitra Mela continues to be a hallmark of tradition and opportunity, creating a lively atmosphere where commerce and culture converge.
