Kailashahar, Dec 23: The Unakoti District Congress on Monday staged a four-hour mass demonstration and submitted a nine-point charter of demands to the district hospital authorities.
The protest, held in front of Unakoti District Hospital, saw participation of MLA Birajit Sinha, Unakoti District Congress president Md. Badruzzaman, Pradesh Congress general secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharjee and other local leaders.
During the protest, the Congress leaders elaborated on their demands including urgent recruitment of general and specialist doctors, as well as technicians, attendants, and pharmacists, to ensure adequate manpower. They also called for the introduction of a mobile ambulance service between 10 pm and 6 am.
Additional demands included consistent supply of water and electricity and cleanliness. The Congress leaders also emphasized the need for a separate operation theatre for critical patients, facilities for Orthopaedic care such as CT scans and X-ray machines, and service of emergency pathological unit. They urged the government to deploy police for round-the-clock security of hospital staff and to set up emergency zones in each department on the hospital’s first floor.
After the demonstration, a five-member delegation from the Congress handed over a copy of the nine-point charter of demands to the hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Pal.
While addressing the gathering, the MLA criticized the state government for its alleged negligence in ensuring adequate healthcare services at the Unakoti District Hospital.
