Agartala April 01: A Congress delegation met the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission on Tuesday to highlight human rights violations against 92 minority families residing in the Matinagar border area under the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency.
The delegation, led by Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, included vice president Shanti Ranjan Debnath, Youth Leader Sahajan Islam, Student Leader Amir Hossain, and Congress Leader Tajul Islam.
The delegation expressed concern over the plight of citizens who lost homes, farmlands, and essential facilities due to the barbed wire fence along the India-Bangladesh border.
They emphasized that recent actions, such as restricting gate access hours and arbitrary electricity disconnections in Matinagar and Jaipur, have severely disrupted the residents’ livelihoods.
The Congress condemned these incidents as gross human rights violations, urging immediate restoration of electricity and adherence to central government regulations.
The delegation demanded urgent administrative measures to resolve the grievances of border residents, ensure unrestricted livelihood opportunities, and prevent further harassment by authorities.
