Teliamura, September 21: The Teliamura District Congress organized a protest march and a public rally on Saturday, demanding the dismissal of Bikash Debbarma, the Minister for Tribal Welfare in the state, from the cabinet. The protest also condemned derogatory remarks made by Union Minister, Ravneet Singh Bittu against Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi.
The march began in Teliamura town and culminated in a public rally at Ampi Chowmuhani. Among the key speakers at the rally were Pradesh Congress General Secretary, Shabda Kumar Jamatia, Secretary, Kartik Debnath, former MLA Ashok Kumar Baidya, State Youth Congress President, Neelkamal Saha, and District Congress President, Pradyut Bhattacharjee.
During the rally, the leaders raised questions about Chief Minister Manik Saha’s transparency, particularly concerning allegations that Bikash Debbarma misappropriated crores of rupees. They called for the minister’s immediate removal from the cabinet and a thorough investigation into his assets. The speakers also demanded action against several corrupt BJP leaders and legislators.
District Congress President Pradyut Bhattacharjee criticized the BJP government's "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" slogan, stating that while there has been no real development for the people, corrupt leaders like Bikash Debbarma have thrived. Bhattacharjee highlighted issues such as unemployment, lack of work in rural areas, and the economic struggles faced by traders and labourers.
The protest concluded with the burning of effigies of Minister Bikas Debbarma and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu.
