Kailasahar Aug 08: The 24-hr bandh called by Pradesh Congress, pressing for 16-charter point demands in three districts of North Tripura evoked a massive response in Kailasahar on Monday.
Almost all the educational institutions, government offices and business establishments remained closed while all kinds of vehicles stayed away from roads.
Kailasahar, being a major ground for Congress with top leaders including TPCC president Birajit Sinha , Kailasahar Congress leader Mohammad Badruzzaman, district Congress leader Rudrendu Bhattacharjee engaged in picketing from early Monday morning.
Our Kailasahar Correspondent said that the top leaders of the party including State NSUI president Samrat Roy led a huge procession and a motor bike rally through the town. Few employees who tried to enter the offices were prevented from doing so by the Congress picketers.
Later, SDPO Dr Chandan Saha and executive magistrate Mangal Debbarma ordered arrest of the picketers including top leaders Birajit Sinha, Md Badruzzaman, Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, Samrat Roy and other picketers who were arrested and kept in temporary detention Center, Kailasahar town hall.
As the picketers and top Congress leaders were arrested after 12.00pm in the afternoon some employees managed to enter offices in the resultant gap in picketing.
TPCC president Birajit Sinha described today’s ‘bandh’ in all three districts of the north Tripura as ‘total success and firm show of no-confidence against the anti-people policies of the BJP government’.
The district administration had deployed a large number of security forces to prevent any untoward incident since Sunday evening.
