Agartala Feb 01: The Opposition CPI-M on Wednesday raised serious concern over Election Commissions’ call of ‘Zero Poll-Violence’ in Tripura, slated to go for polls on coming February 16.
Alleging that CPI-M Cadre was arrested by Police on ‘False Charges’ of being associated with ‘Pistol-related’ incident, CPI-M leaders and activists laid siege in front of the Airport Police Station on Wednesday.
Claiming the arrested local worker of the party to be ‘innocent’ and ‘having no connection’ with any sort of violence CPI-M West District Committee Secretary Ratan Das said, “Police arrested our party cadre for crime which he has never committed. But has failed to arrest the real goon who are responsible for such violent activities when the model code of conduct is in force in the state”.
Castigating the ruling BJP, Ratan Das said, “Not only in this area but everywhere the BJP backed hooligans are conducting violence. Opposition party leaders, activists and their houses are attacked, campaign materials including flags and festoons are destroyed”.
The CPI-M questioned the SEC and Police administration why such incidents are taking place everyday in the dark of night despite adequate force deployed in the state.
a delegation of CPI-M leaders including lawyers met the Police officials at Airport PS in presence of Election Officials and demanded release of party worker at the earliest.
Police however assured to take appropriate steps after a proper investigation and also act more alert in view of the incidents of violence raised by the CPI-M leaders.
