CPI(M)’s 24th state conference ends; Jitendra Chaudhury re-elected as party secretary

Agartala, Jan 31: In a major political development, the opposition CPI(M) in Tripura has re-elected the leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury as the party’s state secretary. The decision was taken during the 3-day long party’s 24th state conference, which formed 61-member committee of the party for the next three years.
Addressing a press conference here at the party headquarter at Melarmath on Friday, the party leader and former minister Manik Dey said that during the state conference, politburo member Manik Sarkar had proposed the name of Jitendra Chaudhury for his re-election as the secretary, following which the party members unanimously agreed the proposal.
He said that with the end of the party’s state conference, the party decided to intensify its movement in the state with at least 9 issues including privatisation of the education sector under the banner of National Education Policy, increasing rate of crimes, especially against women, instigation of communal tension in the name of religion by the BJP and RSS, demand for adequate assistance to the flood affected farmers and declaration of flood recently held in the state last year as National disaster, direct funding to TTAADC and announcement of village council election, filling up all vacant posts in various department of the government by maintaining transparency and others.
On the other hand, the re-elected secretary of the party Jitendra Chaudhyury on Friday said that the with the special provision of the constitution of the party, Manik Sarkar, Narayan Kar and Pabitra Kar, who are above 75-year of age has been inducted as members of the party. As per the party constitution persons above 75 years of age can no longer act as the member of the party, he added.
He said that the 24th state conference of the party has decided to intensify movement against the fascistic rule of the BJP in Tripura. The mass gathering of the party held on January 29 last witnessed massive response from people of all walks of life who are frustrated by the misrule of the present government. On the other hand, he said that CPI(M) has recently demanded the 16th Finance Commission for more empowerment of the TTAADC by ensuring direct funding.
