Agartala, Mar 21: The MLAs from the principal opposition CPIM on Friday staged a walk out from the state assembly protesting against Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen’s objection to allot more time to MLA Dipankar Sen for completing his speech. Sen was speaking on the private member resolution that he moved. The topic of his resolution was the state assembly appeals for enhancing MGNREGA wages upto Rs 340 and also increasing the number of wage-days to at least 200 days per year. Sen argued that this modification in the MGNREGA scheme will solve the “acute crisis of livelihood options” prevalent in the rural areas. Sen’s opening address drew massive criticism from the treasury bench which led to a stormy debate. When Sen tried to conclude his address, the Speaker refused to allot him more time as he ran out of the time allocated to him. The Speaker's decision drew sharp reaction from the opposition bench. The MLAs reached the well and protested against the speaker’s decision. Later at 4:31 pm, the CPIM MLAs staged a walk out. The CPIM party MLAs didn’t join the proceedings till the session was adjourned for the day.
