CPI(ML) demand Govt to declare Tripura flood as ‘National Calamity’

Agartala, Sep 06: The opposition CPI(ML) state committee on Friday expressed concern over the recent flash flood situation, which caused havoc across the state rendering several homeless and incurring a loss of around Rs 15000 crore and demanded the government to declare the flood in Tripura as ‘National Calamity’.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Press Club on Friday, the CPI(ML) state committee president Partha Karmakar said that the government had failed to issue early warnings of heavy rains and evacuate people in time.
He said that the CPI(ML) demands the government to constitute a high-level investigation committee of the revenue department to make a list of genuine flood affected victims and assist them accordingly. He also demanded to allocate the fund of Rs 15000 crore from NDRF.
The CPI(ML) pressed for other various demands including Rs. 50 lakhs each to the families of the deceased who lost their lives in the flood and ensured one government job in the family of each deceased persons along with a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs each to the injured people.
Underlining the loss incurred in the agriculture sector in the recent flash flood, the CPI(ML) demanded to ensure sufficient fertilizers, seeds, pesticides free of cost for the affected farmers. And waive of all agricultural loans.
The CPI(ML) however threatened to launch a massive movement in future if the government fails to meet their demand for the welfare of the flood affected families.
