Agartala, Jan 23: After struggling in finding open space venues in the state, the opposition CPI(M)’s 24th state conference is announced to begin from January 29 next.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Melarmath party office on Thursday, the Leader of Opposition and the party’s state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said that the state conference will be held on January 29, 30 and 31 next at Agartala Town Hall.
Senior politburo members Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Ashok Dhawale in addition to the politburo member and former chief minister Manik Sarkar and other party leaders and workers will remain present in the state conference, he told reporters, adding that the mass gathering of the party will be held on January 29 next.
The party’s state conference will mainly discuss the party’s progress made during the last 3 years, he said, adding that the issues regarding the attack on the opposition parties in Tripura, also including the issues being faced by the common people of the state shall be discussed in the party’s state conference.
On the other hand, talking to the reporters regarding the party’s struggle in finding venue for the state conference, Choudhury said, “The party had initially sought permission from the government to hold the open session in the Swami Vivekananda ground but this has been denied on the ground of SHG fair by the Urban department. We also moved to the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha in this regard, but we were denied.”
“Then we sought permission for the open session in the space in front of the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan which is used by all parties but this has also been denied because of feared traffic congestion. In this regard we again moved to Chief Minister and we opted for the front space of Umakanta Academy. We are in talks with the Chief Minister regarding the venue of the UK Academy,” he said, adding that the mass gathering is likely to be held at U K Academy on January 29 next.
Choudhury said that the party is contemplating to induct young and new faces in the party leaderships to face the challenges in the present time, following which this year the newly elected secretaries of the party’s local committee, sub divisional committee and district committee are mostly young and new faces.
He also said that after the completion of the 24th state conference, a 48 member delegation of Tripura CPI (M) will attend the party’s 24th Congress scheduled to come off in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu from April 2 and 6 next.
