Agartala Sept 23: With an aim to press for the long-standing demand of Tipra Land and Constitutional rights of the indigenous people, the prime opposition party in Tripura, TIPRA Motha announced a 12-hour shut down in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas on September 30, next.
Addressing the press on Saturday, former Chairman of TIPRA Motha, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said, “The 12- hour ADC shutdown on September 30 from 6:00 am- 6:00 pm is to remind the central government of our demand for constitutional solution and raise voice for an early resolution”.
“The bandh has nothing to do with politics but it is to demand justice for the people belonging to Tiprasa community and their existence. The joint voice of the Tiprasa people will be a message to Delhi that we have been waiting patiently for a long time but can’t wait any more”, he said.
Debbarma however mentioned that all essential supplies including Ambulance services will be exempted from the bandh.
The former TIPRA Motha chairman urged all the people belonging to various indigenous communities to come forward and support the shutdown in solidarity with the demand for constitutional solution.
On being asked by the reporters why the bandh will be confined to the ADC areas, Pradyot said, “ADC is the land of the Tiprasa people and out of that TIPRA Motha doesn’t has any major hold. Besides, I do not want any communal sentiments to arise. The bandh will be a joint voice of the Tiprasa to press for the legitimate demands”.
Talking about his meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Pradyot said, “I am sure that he too wants a quick solution to our problems and that is why he nods to meet me everytime. I am sure Delhi will comply to our demands very soon but we will keep on reminding them”.
ADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma, senior leader Rajeshwar Debbarma, former minister Mebar Kumar Jamatia, Manihar Debbarma, TWF Working President among others remained present at the press conference.
