Agartala Aug 11: Based on the theme of “My Handloom My Pride”, a 4-day long exhibition cum sale has been organized as a part of National Handloom Day celebrations at Purbasha premises in capital city Agartala.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp on Thursday.
Addressing the program, Dy CM Jishnu Debbarma said, “Handloom is not only a business but it is a part of the history and culture of India and state”.
Debbarma added the future of handloom in Tripura is extremely bright because handloom has an extended and demanding market not only in the country but world-wide.
“The previous government did not take any step to emphasize the skill and resources of handloom in the state. It is the BJP Govt that has started giving importance to the handloom sector after which, Tripura came to be known for its famous RISHA, a form of handloom by the tribals”, said Jishnu Debbarma.
He added more emphasis will be laid to improve the unorganized handloom sector in Tripura and work to make it organized. Also, detailed market study will be done so that people associated with the handloom can achieve success.
Praising NABARD for organizing the Handloom Industry Fair on the occasion of National Handloom Day, the Deputy Chief Minister said, the industry has a good scope to bloom in Tripura.
He further added NABARD has been doing various works for the welfare of the people in rural areas of Tripura. Debbarma called upon NABARD to stand by the weavers of the state and help them become self- reliant.
The Dy CM assured of providing all sort of necessary government assistance in this regard.
Managing Director of Tripura State Cooperative Bank Bhajan Chandra Roy, Convener of State Level Banker’s Committee Anand Kumar, Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank Satyendra Singh and Chairman of Tripura Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Balai Goswami spoke on the occasion. Vote of thanks was delivered by General Manager of NABARD Loken Das and Assistant General Manager Anil Purohit remained present at the program.
Besides, three Self-Help Groups- Chatmani Badal, Panthabi and Radharani were awarded on behalf NABARD for their contribution in handloom industry.
Seema Debnath, Shipra Debnath and Shibani Debnath were also awarded for their special skill in handloom work.
