Agartala, Jan 10: In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of high-intensity raids across Tripura early Friday morning. Starting at 6 am, the operation targeted the masterminds of drug syndicates operating in the state.
The raids are being meticulously coordinated, focusing on the residences and offices of individuals identified as key players in the illegal trade of cannabis (ganja) and synthetic drugs like Yaba. Unlike smaller operatives and couriers, these individuals are believed to manage large-scale operations from behind the scenes and have so far evaded direct action.
Tripura, long recognized as a major producer of cannabis and a key transit hub for synthetic drugs, has rarely witnessed such a sweeping crackdown. This operation marks the first major attempt to dismantle the upper echelons of drug networks in the region.
In Agartala and its surrounding areas, the ED has reportedly raided the properties of prominent figures, including Apu Ranjan Das, Debbrata Dey, Bishu Tripura, Kamini Debbarma, Tapas Debnath, Dhruba Majumder, and Litan Saha. Over 250 CRPF personnel are supporting the operation.
While details of the seizures are yet to be disclosed, sources suggest that the recoveries could be substantial, possibly involving significant amounts of money and critical documents related to the drug trade.
The raids are being closely monitored by senior officials of the ED, signaling the agency’s determination to tackle the region’s drug menace.
