Agartala, Feb 24: At least eight rooms and one autorickshaw were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire incident near Tripura University in Suryamaninagar on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, a housewife, Bipasha Mandal (29), sustained burn injuries in the fire, which was assumed to have broken out due to a short circuit.

Locals also said that three university students and one family resided as tenants in the rooms of the house. 

It was also learned that the owner of the house, Dilip Sarkar, who stays in Ramnagar, Agartala, later visited the burned house.

All eight rooms of the house were reduced to ashes before fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

An autorickshaw and other valuable belongings of the tenants, estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh, were lost in the fire.
