Elections to be held on February 16, NO CHANGE in dates: Kiran Gitte

Agartala Jan 27: Asserting that any major information must be verified before publication or broadcasting, Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte on Friday evening cleared that the elections to 60-seats of Tripura assembly will be held on February 16 next and there is no change in schedule.
A notification of Election Commission on January 27 that mentioned that “Instead of February 16, the elections will be held on February 27”, triggered resentment across the state.
Meanwhile, the news spread like wildfire and also few electronic media houses started spreading the news.
Clarifying the issue, CEO Kiran Gitte addressed the Press on Friday evening. He said, “It was a printing mistake and there is no change of dates of the assembly polls in Tripura”.
The CEO further added, “A little bit of changes have been made only for the ensuing Tripura assembly polls 2023 in terms of opening of Bank account of Candidate that is to be submitted to the Returning Officer, 1 day before filing nominations”.
“The last date of Filing nominations is January 30 and before that Banks will be closed for 2 days. Noting that, only for this elections, Candidates can submit their Bank Account details particularly opened for election expenditure on January 30 itself”, he added.
Gitte further said, on the 5th day of placing nominations, a total of 76 nominations have been received so far.
