Dharmanagar, Sept 02: Frequent accidents on a dilapidated road in Dharmanagar have led to public outrage, culminating in a road blockade on Monday morning.
The poor condition of the road, which connects Dharmanagar to Panisagar, has caused several accidents resulting in several fatalities.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday night when a bike rider- Rajesh Das from the Upthakhali area of Panisagar was injured after his bike fell into a ditch near Krishnapur School due to the deteriorating road.
This incident triggered a protest by local residents early Monday morning, blocking the main road in front of Krishnapur School. The road, which serves as the main route between Dharmanagar and Panisagar, has been in a state of disrepair for years, with large potholes creating dangerous conditions for commuters.
The 15-kilometer stretch of the road is lying in a pathetic condition.
The protest lasted for two hours before officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) arrived at the scene. SDO Alok Das along with senior engineers- Dibyajyoti Nath and Jayanta Bikash Dhar assured the protestors that repair work on the road would begin the following day.
