Govt provides Rs 15 crore financial support to flood affected farmers in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 05: Tripura government is committed to stand by the flood affected farmers in Tripura and as part of this the government has provided Rs 15 crore financial support to the farmers, where Rs 1000 was credited to the bank accounts of each of the flood affected farmers, said BJP Kisan Morcha president Pradip Baran Ray on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference here in the party office of BJP, the Kisan Morcha president said that over 90000 hectares of agricultural land was damaged by the deadly flood, where over 2 lakh farmers were affected.
He informed that the state agriculture and farmers’ welfare department has sent a proposal of financial support amounting to Rs 128.80 crore with the state financial department. The state government has already provided interim relief amounting to Rs 20 crore to the department for disbursement to the flood affected farmers, he added.
He also informed that a necessary initiative has been taken to transfer Rs 14.83 through DBT directly to farmers' bank accounts within this week, where Rs 1000 will be credited to the bank accounts of each of the farmers. Similarly, the government took the initiative to support 45,248 flood affected farmers for cultivation of winter vegetables. Rs 15 crore will be disbursed as part of the financial support, he told reporters.
He however informed that the government is committed to work for the welfare of the farmers of the state and as part of this multiple initiatives have been taken up to enhance their livelihood. In addition to the flood relief package, the government has been supporting the flood affected farmers with distribution of seeds, saplings of winter vegetables, fertilizers and others free of cost.
