Agartala, Aug 09: Secretary of Tripura unit of CPI-M Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday accused the ruling BJP of depriving the indigenous communities in its rule.
He was addressing a programme jointly organized by GMP, TYF, TUKC and TSU to mark the International Day of Indigenous People in Agartala.
Chaudhuri alleged, “This BJP government failed to meet their pre-poll promises made in their vision document and pushed the youths of the indigenous community along with other sections towards drug addiction so as to destroy the upcoming generation.”
He claimed, the previous Left front government in Tripura ensured jobs and employment opportunities for the tribal youths of the state. The Left front also took various initiatives for socio-economic development of the Janajati section.
“The situation turned very grim across the nation as the Adivasis are being deprived at large from their rights under the rule of Modi government,” Choudhuri alleged and called for united resistance against the government so as to preserve the tradition and culture of the Janajati people.
He continued to attack the BJP government saying, “While the BJP has projected itself as the benefactor of tribals by nominating Droupadi Murmu, who now holds the highest constitutional post of the country, the government has brought an amendment to Forest Conservation Act (FCA) 1980 which attacks the rights of tribal communities or the Adivasis across the nation.”
Choudhuri however, in his address to the gathering on Tuesday read out the GMP’s demands to the President of India Droupadi Murmu. The demands include – immediate passage of the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill in the parliament to empower the TTAADC, inclusion of Kok-Borok language in the 8th schedule of the constitution, and others.
