Teliamura, Feb 21, 2024, TRIPURATIMES Desk

Teliamura Feb 21: 10- day long Handicraft Exhibition in Teliamura finally concluded. However, despite spending almost Rs 10 lakh from government treasury, the Jumbo organizing committee of the fair failed to gather crowd or buyers.
Notably, with the financial support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the 10- day long handloom and handicraft fair commenced from February 11 at the old hospital ground of Teliamura subdivision.
A total of 40 vendors from Tripura and other states had put their exhibition stalls in the fair premises. But because of lack of buyers, the shopkeepers could not meet up with the expected profit.
The major reason behind this includes, lackadaisical role of the organizing committee. The committee paid no heed in promotion of the fair but did a press conference one day prior to the day of commencement of the fair because of which many people did not receive any information regarding the same.
Although cultural programs were arranged in the fair premises at a cost of Rs 2 lakh but this too failed in attracting buyers or crowd.
Traders from may outer states including Kashmir wrapped up their stalls on the second day itself because of dearth of visitors.
Meanwhile, a section of locals is of the view that only the members of the committee formed on the occasion of the fair saw huge profit.
