Agartala, Dec 24: The state power and agriculture minister Ratan Lala Nath on Tuesday distributed sanction memos of social allowance among the Divyangjans of Mohanpur subdivision and said that the government is committed to work for the welfare of the Divyangjans.
The distribution programme was organized by the Mohanpur ICDS Project in collaboration with the Mohanpur Municipal Council and Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti.
Addressing the event, minister Ratan Lal Nath said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dropped the word 'viklangjan' from its previous nomenclature and renamed it as ‘Divyangjans’. PM Modi had said physically challenged people have a "divine ability" and the term "divyang" should be used in place of "viklang" for them, Nath added.
He said that presently 4,08,727 are receiving social allowance of Rs 2000 and Tripura is the only state in the country to introduce Rs 2000 social allowance and earlier only 80% Divyangjans used to get the allowance but after the establishment of BJP government in the state it was reduced to 60% which is unprecedented in the whole of India.
101 Divyangjans from Mohanpur Block under Mohanpur subdivision, 89 Divyangjans from Bamutia Block, 26 Divyangjans from Lefunga block and 40 Divyangjans of Mohanpur Municipal Council area received the sanction memo of their social allowance.
The minister said that the Divyangjans, who received sanction memos shall receive their social allowance from January next year.
