Agartala Feb 08: In a significant move towards addressing the rising concerns of drug addiction and to achieve the goal of “Drug- free nation”, a total of 41 ‘Addiction Treatment Facilities’ have been inaugurated virtually on Thursday, including 5 centers in Tripura.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar virtually inaugurated 41 addiction treatment facility centres across the country under the Nesha Muktu Bharat Abhiyan- Drug Free India Campaign organized in the national capital on Thursday.
Union Ministers of State, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik, Ramdas Athawale, A Narayanaswamy among others also remained present at the inaugural ceremony.
Among the 5 (five) centres inaugurated in Tripura, 1 centre was inaugurated in the Narsingarh Mental Hospital at Narsingarh.
Additional district Magistrate of West Tripura district Subhash Chandra Saha, SPO Narsingarh Mental Hospital Dr Udayan Majumder, HOD Narsingarh Mental Hospital Dr Sapan Chandra BARMAN, Officer ATF Dr Dipayan Sarkar among others remained present at the inaugural session.
During the virtual inauguration of the facility centres, the Union Minister Dr Kumar said, “The positive energy of the youth of the country should be used for the welfare of their family, society and country”.
He said that a person affected by the bad habit of drug addiction also has a bad impact on the society and family. In the programme everyone was also administered the oath of drug-free India campaign.
Expressing concern about the consequences of drug addiction Dr Kumar said, “It is not possible for the central or state government alone to achieve the goal of a drug-free nation. The common people should come forward in this along with other social organizations”.
Meanwhile, addressing the inaugural program at Narsingarh Mental Hospital, West Tripura district Additional District Magistrate Dr Subhash Chandra Saha said, “There is a need to adopt a cooperative attitude towards the people suffering from drug addiction”.
Through the addiction treatment facilities, people affected by drug addiction will be easily treated, he said.
