Agartala Oct 05: Tripura Police on Saturday apprehended an individual for ‘harassing an on-duty traffic personnel’.
According to the details, three youths were spotted threatening traffic police in Netaji Chowmani area of the state capital on October 02, after he stopped their scooty for violating traffic norms.
The video of the incident posted in social media went viral where the youths aggressively threatened the traffic personnel using slang and demeaning words.
In response to the incident, a good number of traffic personnel staged a protest demonstration in the Swami Vivekananda Stadium, Agartala, braving the rain.
A team of police officials including West Tripura PS OC Paritosh Das hurried to the spot and spoke to the agitators.
Saturday, West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar addressed the media over the issue and informed about the arrest of one accused involved with the incident.
“A video surfaced on social media showing a hot altercation between a Traffic Police Officer and some public. In this connection, a specific case has been registered vide West Agt. PS Case No. 2024 WAG 117, U/S 132/351(2)(3)/3(5) of BNS & Section 3 (1)®(s) of the Scheduled Castes & The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989”, he said.
The West SP added, “Three youths travelling in a scooty were found without helmets and were stopped by the on-duty traffic police. Friday, one of the accused, Deep Datta (23), resident of AD Nagar area has been arrested by police”.
He further said, “Strict action will be taken against the accused’s involved. All are requested to cooperate with Police for the greater interest of the society and the search for two other accused in underway”.
The police authorities have urged the public to extend hands of cooperation to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
