Over 80 pc turnout in East Tripura PC, voting peaceful: CEO

Agartala, Apr 26: The East Tripura parliamentary constituency recorded 80.32 percent voting till 8 pm, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal said on Friday night.
He said, voters were in the queues in some places till the last information came in.
The CEO said that the second phase of polling in the state was peaceful. He greeted the voters for exercising their franchise in a peaceful manner.
He also thanked various political parties, candidates and media for extending cooperation.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes would take place on June 4 next.
Speaking to the media, he said the number of complaints during the polling was less and all complaints were addressed immediately.
The polling in East Tripura parliamentary constituency was peaceful as the people exercised their democratic rights in a festive mood amid tight security.
The voting process started in all polling stations under the East Tripura seat at 7 am. There was no report of any untoward incident till the last information came in. Some of the INDI Bloc leaders alleged unfair practices by ruling party workers in some places, otherwise the voting remained peaceful so far.
Along with others, Minister Santana Chakma, Minister Tinku Roy, Congress MLA Birajit Sinha, BJP East Tripura candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman, INDI Bloc candidate Rajendra Reang and other leaders exercised their democratic rights in their respective polling stations.
The Election Commission deployed 85 companies of central force in Tripura to ensure free and fair elections. A total of 1365 Micro Observers were appointed for the East Tripura PC.
Facilities like drinking water, proper lighting, Ramp for the disabled person, toilets, shade for the voters in queue etc. were arranged in all the polling stations.
The total number of general voters enrolled under the East Tripura Parliamentary constituency was 28,60,287—male voters 14,36,644, female voters 14,23,574 and third genders 69.
