Ambasa April 23: As the political landscape in Tripura braces for another intense battle, all eyes are fixed on the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency.
With the next election slated for April 26, 2024, the region is abuzz with anticipation and political fervour.
The seat is designated for scheduled tribes. During the inaugural elections in 1952, Dasarath Deb, the leader of the Ganamukti Parishad uprising, occupied this seat.
As per the Election Commission’s data, the constituency has a total of 1,140,269 voters, encompassing 30 assembly seats within the parliamentary constituency.
The date of voting for the Tripura West Lok Sabha Constituency Election 2024 was April 19 (Phase 1) and for the East Tripura Parliamentary Constituency the date of polling is on April 26 next (Phase 2). The date of counting and announcement of results is June 4.
In this seat, the Left Front and Congress are competing jointly against the BJP and TIPRA Motha, the prominent contenders include Kriti Singh Debbarma representing the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rajendra Kumar Reang from the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
In the 2019 parliamentary election, Rebati Tripura, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, emerged victorious with 482,126 votes, securing the seat as Member of Parliament.
Addressing media, East Tripura RO Saju Waheed mentioned that the administration is all set for ensuring a peaceful voting process.
He said, “Postal ballot voting in Dhalai district ended on Tuesday. Out of 1087 employees at various levels including poll workers, security personnel, media and others 1057 employees i.e. 97.24% votes have been casted at postal ballot facilitation centres (PBFC)”.
“Out of 13 model polling stations in the Dhalai district, 12 are women managed polling stations, 6 youth managed polling stations and 6 PWD managed polling stations.”, he added
He also urged the common people, especially the new voters to come forward and exercise their democratic right on this day.
