Agartala, Oct 07: Electricity is the most essential part in modern lifestyle and the demand for power is increasing day by day. Keeping this view in mind, we have to depend on solar power to meet the demand in future, said Minister for Power Ratanlal Nath.
After inaugurating a 33KV power sub-station at Office Tilla in Khowai district, Nath said, a proposal has already been accepted to use solar energy in the days to come.
The power sub-station has been constructed at an expenditure of Rs. 8.24 crore with the assistance from the Ministry of Power and World Bank. The new facility would benefit around 15,705 consumers in nine areas of Khowai district.
The Power minister said, four rivers of the state- Manu, Deo, Khowai and Muhuri have been identified for hydro power projects.
He also said, the number of electricity consumers has increased from 7.50 lakh to 9.71 lakh over the past few years. The state government has already taken an initiative to install prepaid meters, he said, while urging the people to cooperate in preventing power theft.
Nath also made an appeal to the people not to attack the power staff or offices in case of load shedding and disruption in power supply. He also asked the officials concerned to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state.
Sabhadhipati of Khowai Zilla Parishad Joydeb Debbarma, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, chairman of Khowai municipal council Debashis Nath Sharma, vice-chairman Niwas Saha, vice-chairman of Khowai Panchayat Samity Tapas Kanti Das and general manager Ranjan Debbarma were present.
