Teliamura Jul 07: Samajpati of Reang group in Kakrachara and North Gokulnagar ADC Villages under Mungiakami block has issued a stern warning on Sunday, threatening to block the national Highway.
The accusation centers around the government’s alleged mishandling of housing project for Reang communities under Prime Minister’s JANMAN Scheme.
According to Kripajoy Reang, Reang Samajpati in the area, funds were allocated to construct pucca houses for Reang beneficiaries as a part of PM-JANMAN Scheme.
However, despite the selection of recipient names from these villages by the Mungiakami block administration earlier this year, the promised government houses have not been distributed yet.
“While Reang beneficiaries from other parts of the state have received their homes, those in Kakrachara and North Gokulnagar ADC villages remain deprived. The delay has persisted for six months since the list was published”, alleged Kripajoy Reang.
He further alleged, “Local authorities and the separate PGP office designated for the Reang ethnic group have been repeatedly contacted, but their responses have been evasive and unhelpful”.
Notably, Kakrachara ADC Village alone is home to 516 Reang families. Among them, 483 families possess REGA job cards, and 173 beneficiaries were selected for the PM- JANMAN Scheme’s A-house recipient list.
The Reang community primarily relies on Jhum cultivation, and their frustration over the prolonged deprivation has reached a boiling point.
A meeting led by the Samajpati has set July 9 as the deadline for the state government to take necessary action.
Should their demands go unmet, the Reang Samaj has vowed to escalate their protest into a larger movement, potentially disrupting the national highway.
The villagers urged the authorities to address the housing issue promptly to avert further tensions.
