Agartala, Oct 05: The opposition CPI(M) and its Left front rallied here at Agartala on Saturday to condemn the alleged attacks on minorities in the neighbouring country of Bangladesh and also sought the intervention of the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure protection of the minorities.
A large number of men and women belonging to different communities and religions participated in the protest rally amid rain and chanted slogans demanding the protection of minorities irrespective of religion in Bangladesh.
The former Chief Minister and the CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar, who joined the rally, said that the people in Bangladesh should come forward and take the responsibility to guard the minorities from any kind of attacks and atrocities. They must put pressure on their interim government to safeguard the lives and properties of minorities, Sarkar added.
Sarkar said, “We have nothing to say against the functioning of the present government in Bangladesh, but we are deeply worried about the large scale attacks on the minorities in the country. As a neighbor, India wishes for peace and stability in Bangladesh, which would benefit people of all communities.”
