Agartala/Amarpur March 02: Around 200 sericulture beneficiaries from three clusters including Udaipur, Amarpur and Karbook under Gomati district took part in a 1-day long “Resham Krishi Mela” at Anandadhara Town hall in Amarpur on February 28, 2024.
The program was organized under the initiative of Research Extension Centre (REC), Central Silk Board, Agartala unit in coordination with Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSR&TI), Berhampore, West Bengal.
MLA Amarpur, Ranjit Das inaugurated the program is presence of other dignitaries including Chairperson Amarpur Panchayat Samiti Manti Debnath Rudra pal, Bikash Saha, Chairman, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat, Nimai Murasingh, Joint Director, Pradip Kumar Saha, Superintendent (Seri), Department of Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture (HHS), Govt. of Tripura.
Also, Pranab Basu, District officer along with all the cluster in-charges of Gomati district were present in the Mela.
Three Scientists from CSR&TI, Berhampore (WB) namely Dr. G. Srinivasa, Scientist –D, Dr. V.S. Raviraj, Scientist –C and Dr. Khasru Alam, scientist – C also attended the Fair.
Efforts of REC, Central Silk board, Agartala to assemble people from Politics, administration, R&D and the farmers in a common platform and to get a good result from it so that the income of the farmers may be doubled by encouraging them to adopt new technologies of sericulture.
MLA Ranjit Das inaugurated an exhibition stall and saw the different aspects of sericulture moving around the mela.
Scientists of CSR&TI, Berhampore focused on different technologies newly evolved by the Institute on mulberry varieties viz. C-2038 / TR -23 and silk worm hybrids viz. BHP-DH etc. and urged the farmers to adopt them for better income from sericulture.
Nimai Murasingh, Joint Director, HHS gave an overall scenario of sericulture in the district and emphasized on the need of further enhancement of it.
In his speech Bikash Saha, Chairman, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat discussed the history of silk in India and gave the picture of “Silk Route”.
Addressing the program, MLA Ranjit Das expressed his happiness on organizing this Mela at Amarpur.
He conveyed his well wishes to the effort of REC, Agartala for gearing up the sericulture activities in the district.
