Agartala Dec 24: “This is nothing new, every other month we are dealing with the issue of pending salaries. And questioning the authorities each time we are given the excuse of pending bills”, said one of the protesting safai karmi, highlighting their plight.
The sanitation workers who have not received wages for past three months, voiced their frustration, demanding immediate action to resolve the issue, as they staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday in front of the GBP Hospital, Agartala, under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Tripura Unit.
The protesters stated that they have not been paid their salaries for the months of October and November, despite it being the end of December. They emphasized the financial hardships they have been facing due to the delay in payments.
Talking to the reporters, one of the protesters said, “We approached the authorities of Sulabh Sanitation Foundation, the company under which we are employed. They informed that the delay in paying our wages is because, the government is not releasing the necessary bills”.
“Yesterday we wrote to the MS and a copy of the same has been sent to the DM, Director, Health Services and the Labour Director as well”, he said.
The agitators added, “From the protest, we want to draw the attention of the chief minister as well as the concerned authorities to look into the matter from a humanitarian point of view and ensure that we receive our due wages”.
