Agartala, Oct 18: Under Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogajog Yojana, Finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Friday released an amount of Rs. 5,27,80,000 for providing smartphones to the students.
The fund has been sanctioned by the state government for 10,556 students from 38 government colleges.
The Finance minister released the fund in a ceremony at the Smart Training Centre of Information and Technology department's head office.
The initiative, managed by the Information and Technology department, aims to provide final-year students of the 2022-23 academic session with financial assistance to buy smartphones. Each eligible student will receive a grant of Rs. 5,000.
Director of Information and Technology department- Jeya Ragul Geshan B., other officials from the department, and students from various colleges were present in the event.
The initiative is a part of the government's on-going efforts to enhance digital access and support students' educational needs.
According to the Finance minister, the Government of Tripura is committed to supporting eligible undergraduate students across the state by providing a Rs. 5000 grant for smartphones, promoting digital education and adaptability.
“Through this scheme, 10,556 applications from 38 government colleges have been approved, with a total of Rs. 5,27,80,000 allocated to benefit these students,” he mentioned in a social media post.
