Agartala, Sept 21: The state has recorded a significant decline in road accident deaths following a month-long special drive carried out by Tripura Police.
According to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Tripura Police carried out the special drive from August 19 to September 18 last.
In a social media post, he mentioned that the number of road accident deaths and injury cases had come down significantly.
“There has been significant reduction in road accident deaths by around 65%, injuries by 50% and total road accident cases by around 50% within one month of special drive taken up by Tripura Police (19/08/2023 to 18/09/2023) in pursuance of my instruction,” the Chief Minister wrote on Facebook.
He mentioned, “This is in comparison to the average monthly such deaths and cases in the last three and half years. This is despite an over 20% increase in vehicles over the same period.”
This special drive was conducted in a mission mode and efforts were made to identify the accident ‘black spots’ and organise awareness campaigns in coordination with all related stakeholders, including NHIDCL, PWD, Health, Transport, Social Welfare departments and district administrations. The special drive would continue.
The Chief Minister appealed to everyone to obey the traffic and safety guidelines.
