Gandacherra Feb 28: In a significant move to support the agricultural community, the Agri Product Market Building was formally inaugurated at a function in Gandacherra Bazar of Dhalai district on Friday.
The event saw the presence of State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, local MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang, State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Director Dr. Phani Bhushan Jamatia, and other dignitaries.
The two-storey market, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, was constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 5.66 crore.
During his speech, Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the state government's commitment to giving utmost importance to farmers. He announced that a large number of vacancies would be filled in various posts within the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department to further support the development of farmers.
He also stressed that no land should be left fallow; if paddy is not cultivated on any land, other types of fruits or vegetables should be grown instead. The minister highlighted the Prime Minister's vision of not just doubling farmers' income but significantly increasing it, and assured that the government is working diligently towards that goal.
Minister Nath also underscored the vital role of farmers as the breadwinners of the nation, stating that without them, people would not be able to survive regardless of their wealth.
He asserted that the country's progress depends on the financial development of rural poor and farmers. Additionally, he called for transparency and urged traders to maintain cleanliness in the newly built market.
Later, as a part of the event, the minister handed over two power tiller machines to two beneficiaries from the local area, symbolizing the government's ongoing support for farmers.
