Agartala Jun 26: The government of Tripura has taken a significant step towards enhancing animal welfare and rural development with the inauguration of a newly constructed building for a veterinary hospital in Belonia sub-division, said Minister for Animal Resource Development Department Sudhangshu Das.
Addressing the inauguration program of the new veterinary hospital on Wednesday, the ARDD minister emphasized the importance of animal husbandry in bolstering the rural economy.
He said, “Beyond providing employment, livestock rearing has helped in empowering people in rural areas to become self-reliant. Families dependent on animal rearing are being encouraged to participate actively.
To support this initiative, the ‘Mukhyamantri Prani Palak Samman Nidhi Prakalp’ has been launched in the state. The scheme aims to provide training and loans to youth in rural areas, fostering employment opportunities and self-sufficiency”.
Das further outlined the government’s commitment to increasing milk, egg, and meat production within the state.
He said, “To achieve this goal, comprehensive measures are being implemented. These include expanding animal protection, disease prevention, and treatment systems. Advanced infrastructure is being developed to enhance livestock care”.
Apart from that, mobile ambulance services have been introduced to ensure prompt and effective treatment for animals.
The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including president of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Kakali Das Dutta, MLA Sapna Majumdar, Assistant president of Zilla Parishad Bibhishan Das and Director of Animal Resources Development Department Dr. Bimal Krishna Das.
Social Workers Sushankar Bhowmik and Gautam Sarkar also participated in the program along with Belonia Municipal Council Chairperson Nikhil Chandra Gope who presided over the event and Ashok Majumder, Assistant Director of Animal Resources Development Department, who delivered the welcome address on the occasion.
The construction of the new veterinary hospital, a vital addition to the region, was made possible through an investment of Rs 1.18 crores.
