Agartala Jun 29: On the occasion of Statistics Day, the Department of Finance and Statistics emphasized the critical role of data in effective planning and implementation.
Minister Vikas Debbarma inaugurated the event, held in Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, commemorating the birth anniversary of renowned statistician Professor Prashanta Chandra Mahalabish.
In his address, Minister Debbarma underscored that data serves as the foundation for informed decision-making.
“Without accurate and comprehensive data, planning and execution become challenging”, said Debbarma.
He also announced ongoing efforts to modernize the statistics department, including the construction of a new office building.
“Currently, the department operates in four districts, with plans to expand to other regions”, he said.
Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalabish, a Padma awardee and visionary planner, was remembered with respect during the event. The theme for this year’s Statistics Day is “Use of Data for Decision Making.”
Meanwhile, as part of the celebration, a blood donation camp was organized, with 34 officers and employees from the department participating.
Abhishek Chandra, Special Secretary of the Department of Finance and Statistics, presented information on various programs through a PowerPoint presentation.
Census Officer Ravindra Ryan discussed the importance of census data, while Additional Director Arup Kumar Chand addressed the audience.
Director Debananda Reang expressed gratitude, and Minister Debbarma unveiled two books:
“NSS Report Book, Debt and Investment” and “NSS Report Book, Household Social Consumption on Health in Tripura.”
The program commenced with guests paying tribute to Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalabish’s portrait.
