Strong rooms to have CCTV coverage: CEO

Agartala, Feb 16: In view of the long gap between the polling and counting, a decision has been taken to install CCTVs in the strong rooms and appoint gazetted officers in the control rooms.
The gazetted officers would work in three shifts. Besides, the representatives of the candidates would have access to the control rooms; they would be allowed to watch CCTV footage, said Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte.
There are total 27 counting halls across the state. The counting of votes will take place on March 2 next.
He also said, one sector officer and another staff were removed for misconduct before commencement of the polling on Thursday.
The sector officer- Nepal Bhowmik, who was assigned at 3- Bamutia assembly constituency, had reportedly entered booth no- 50 and started pressing the EVM indiscriminately.
The voters standing in the queue protested the incident, it was reported to the Chief Electoral Officer.
Bhowmik and another staff were removed after the incident and they were also served notices.
