Agartala April 03: Claims, counter-claims, allegations and counter-allegations echoes in poll-bound Tripura as the political parties both ruling and opposition are campaigning hard to ensure their own victory.
The opposition CPI-M and Congress who are jointly contesting against the ruling BJP-TIPRA Motha alliance under the banner of I.N.D.I.A bloc raised stern allegations against the BJP and its nominated candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Attacking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government in the Centre as well as in the state, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged that despite 10 years of rule in the country, the BJP-led NDA government has failed to present a progress report to the common people.
“The reaction and response from the common people that we are receiving during campaigns are proof that people want change. Not only in Tripura, but people in the entire country and mostly in the BJP-ruled states are frustrated with the Modi government”, said Sudip as he addressed the press from Agartala Press Club on Wednesday.
Claiming that the BJP failed to produce a report card to the people, Sudip further alleged that following the ‘anti-incumbency’ against the BJP government, the ruling party is trying to create a situation of terror, fear, to divert the attention of the common people.
Talking about BJPs claims of ‘massive response’ and ‘grand rallies’ during the nomination filing of their party candidates, Sudip said, “Locals in Ambasa and other parts themselves alleged that they were forced to join the rally”.
“Keys of Tom-Toms and auto rickshaws were taken away, poor daily wagers and others were compelled to leave their work and join the rally of BJP”, he said.
Lashing out at the BJP candidate, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the Congress MLA said, “I have been telling from a long time that the ousted chief minister is running a parallel administration in the state. And with the return of him to mainstream politics, the trend of hooliganism has returned back”.
Talking about the ‘verbal abuses’ used by Deb during the poll campaigns, Sudip said, “What more can be expected from him. He has no right to talk about me and my family during poll campaigns. The language and statements used by him against my family is a personal attack”.
Taking a dig at the TPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, Roy Barman said, “Pradyot is not a Maharaja but he is a Mahajan who used to be found in villages in earlier days. This is because he sold the Tiprasa people to the BJP for facilitating his own interests”.
“Pradyot is the one who ensured BJPs victory in the 2023 assembly elections and his alliance with the BJP is a proof to this statement”, he alleged.
Talking to the reporters from the day’s press conference, CPIM MLA and state secretary Jiten Choudhury said, “It is true that CPI-M and Congress are opposition in terms of policies, ideologies but our agenda is the same and that is to oust the BJP from power which is destroying the state and the country”.
He further slammed the ruling party over issues like ‘unethical use’ of government machinery like ED, CBI, RBI among others and electoral bonds.
The leaders of both CPI-M and Congress urged the common people to think about the discussed matters rationally, support the I.N.D.I.A bloc and ensure victory of the candidates in both the Lok Sabha seats.
