Agartala Jun 29: Public projects and services thrive when common people actively participate. Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, emphasized this during the inauguration of a state-level workshop on maintenance and welfare laws for senior citizens at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Saturday.
Organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, the workshop aimed to sensitize grassroots officials about the Care and Protection of Elderly Parents and Senior Citizens Maintenance and Welfare Act, 2007.
Addressing the program, Minister Roy highlighted that while legislation plays a crucial role in protecting and promoting the welfare of senior citizens, it cannot address social ills alone. Total participation and public awareness are essential. The Act came into effect in Tripura on August 15, 2008.
The SW & SE Minister also inaugurated an online Management Information System (MIS) portal.
“The portal will provide updated information on various laws, including the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, The Juvenile (Care and Justice) of Children) Act, 2015, and The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.”, he informed.
The workshop featured discussions led by Department Secretary Tapas Roy, Director Smita Mall and Law Department Joint Secretary Sopan Chowdhury. Officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, District Magistrates, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates actively participated in the workshop, exploring various laws and MIS applications.
