Kailashahar, Jan 27: In a shocking incident on Republic Day, two Indian farmers were brutally attacked and injured by Bangladeshi nationals at the zero point of India-Bangladesh international border near Hira Charra ADC village in Kailashahar. The attack has escalated tensions along the border, leaving the local community in shock and anger.
The incident occurred at Zero Point near border gate no- 44, where two farmers Karim Ali (28) and Zamir Ali (34) from Kailashahar had gone to work on their farmland.
The duo noticed damage to their betel leaves and paddy crops, allegedly caused by intruders. While they were returning home after farming, around 10-12 Bangladeshi nationals armed with sharp weapons, rods, and sticks attacked them.
Karim sustained severe injuries, including cuts to his left hand and back, while Zamir suffered head injuries and wounds to his back.
Both farmers somehow managed to reach the border gate. They were then rushed to Unakoti District Hospital. Doctors stated that Karim’s injuries are critical, and one of his fingers was amputated on Monday.
The injired farmers confirmed that the attackers crossed into Indian territory from the Muruichhara area in Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh. The attack site is located beyond the visible range of the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at gate no 44, which made it difficult for them to intervene.
Local sources revealed that tensions had already been high in the region following a series of incidents, including an alleged attack on BSF personnel earlier this month and the construction of an illegal dam by Bangladesh near Devipur.
In response to the recent incident, a flag meeting was held on January 27 between BSF officials from Hira Charra BOP and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials from the Awola Chhara camp in Moulvibazar. Both sides agreed to maintain peace and prevent such incidents in the future.
