Tension in Durpabari ADC village over Bru settlement

Santirbazar Nov 07: Agitated locals of Durpa Bari ADC village obstructed officials who were on a visit to the area for inspecting the resettlement site for the displaced Brus.
According to the decision of the state government, a place has been earmarked for the resettlement of Bru refugees at Durpabari ADC village under Santirbazar sub-division.
Notably, in various past instances, the administrative authorities had to face various obstacles to determine this place.
Residents of the area are adamant on obstructing the resettlement of refugees in the area.
According to local residents, they are solely depended on the forest for their livelihood.
Monday, DCM Manoj Pal, Bagafa Forest Ranger Sanjib Sarkar, Santirbazar Police Station OC Biswajit Debbarma and other security department personnel went to Durpa Bari ADC Village for demarcation.
But the local residents obstructed the authorities adding that, “We are poor and now if the forest is destroyed, we have to have severe hardships”.
The people of the area did not provide any assistance to the process following which all the authorities had to return from the scene.
A tensed atmosphere was created in the area for some time.
However, with the efforts of OC Biswajit Debbarma the situation came under control.
