Dharmanagar April 01: An arbitration meeting in Rajnagar village, initiated by the Nath community, on Monday, ordered the eviction of Sunil Das and his family, who belong to the slave community.
The meeting, held at Anandabazar's market shed, alleged that Sunil Das and his son, Biplab Das, had made derogatory remarks about the Nath community and filed false cases against local villagers.
Prominent figures including Rajnagar Gram Panchayat chief Amar Debnath were present.
Following the meeting, agitated youths blocked the Dharmanagar-Kailashahar road, causing significant disruption.
However, prompt police intervention helped lift the blockade and control the situation. The police later received complaints from meeting attendees against the Das family.
The legitimacy of the eviction order has sparked widespread concerns. Local sources suggest prior conflicts may have influenced the decision, with some believing vested interests aim to remove the Das family.
While police have stabilized the situation, lingering tensions between the communities persist, leaving locals uneasy about the future resolution without administrative involvement.
