Agartala Nov 30: Tipra Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF), on Wednesday conducted a mass rally to press for the demand to use Roman script for Kokborok language in all examinations.
The rally started from Umakanta School ground and traversed various routes of the capital city to reach Sikhsha Bhavan, where a delegation of TISF placed deputation to the Director of Education Department.
The student wing of TIPRA Motha, the ruling party in the ADC slammed the state BJP government over its failure to uplift the Kokborok language through education.
Raising several other issues including ABVP’s “Goonda Raj” in Tripura colleges, TISF gheraoed the Sikhsha Bhavan for the first time since the party was formed in the state.
As a solution to the problem, TISF demanded 50% reservation for ST students in Student Councils, alleging that BJP backed ABVP is trying to disturb the harmony among various communities of students in the state government colleges.
Talking to the media, TIPRA Motha leader Mevar Kumar Jamatia said, “Today either CBSE or Tripura Board, both are forcing students to write Kokborok language in Bengali totally side-lining the main demand of Tiprasa students”.
“We are not against any community but doing these, the BJP-led government is intentionally creating problems. Also, 50% reservation in college councils must be given to the ST students as the BJP backed student wings like ABVP are trying to instigate communal disturbances in the colleges”, he added.
Submitting a memorandum to the Director of Education Department at the Siksha Bhavan TISF demanded the state government to immediately act on fulfillment of the demands.
