Agartala, Nov 14: As the ruling BJP’s alliance partner TIPRA Motha recently demanded the government to increase the tribal reserved seats from 20-25 in the 60-member Tripura assembly, the Amra Bangali – a body of a Bengali community on Thursday rubbished the demand and termed it ‘unconstitutional’.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Thursday, Amra Bangali state general secretary Gouranga Rudra Pal said, “The demand for 25 reserved seats for the STs instead of 20 as raised by the TIPRA Motha party is completely unconstitutional.”
“We feel that by raising such unconstitutional demands, a deep conspiracy is being hatched against the Bengali community people. We strongly oppose the demand,” he told reporters.
The Amra Bangali observed that as per the constitution of India more than 50% seats in 60-member assembly cannot be reserved and hence it is not possible to reserve more than 20 ST seats out of 60 seats in the Tripura Legislative Assembly as already 50% seats are reserved with 20 for ST and the rest 10 for SC.
